Golf Doesn't Have an Off-Season Anymore
A mother-and-son owned business, born and raised in Lake County.
Why We Built This
Everybody who plays this game loves this game. And then the weather turns, and it's just — gone. Five months of no course, no range, no buddies, no reps. The whole community goes quiet until spring.
That never made sense to us.
For years the two of us have run Cantrell Cleaning together — early mornings, long days, a lot of buildings. It's the business that funded this one. Every dollar that built Rain Check came out of work we did ourselves.
One of our cleaning accounts happened to sit near an indoor golf facility, a good drive from home. Cory started stopping in on the way back, then started going as often as he possibly could. Two full off-seasons of it.
Something happened over those two winters. Not from a swing overhaul or a magic tip, but from simply not stopping. More reps. Real numbers instead of guessing. Feedback that actually told him what was happening. He came out the other side a genuinely better player — and with a question that wouldn't go away.
Why does anybody around here have to drive that far for this?
There was nothing like it locally. And there was nobody nearby doing high-quality club fittings or giving golf advice a normal person could actually go use on Saturday.
So we built it ourselves.
The Name
A rain check is what you get when the weather takes the day away from you.
We just decided to stop handing them out. No rained-out rounds, no dark winters, no waiting until April to touch a club again. Open 24/7, 365. The community stays alive year-round.
Who Does What
Cory handles the business side — marketing, sales, admin, and the fitting bay. He's been fitting clubs for over six years and is certified with most major manufacturers. When you sit down for a fitting here, you're getting someone who's done this for a long time and will explain why a club is right for you, not just hand you a receipt.
Leanne runs customer service, which is where she shines. At Rain Check we believe whoever holds the highest standard for something should be the one who owns it — and nobody holds a higher standard for how our customers are treated than Leanne.
Where We Are Now
We bootstrapped this thing starting with four bays. Word of mouth in the golf community moved faster than we planned for, and we outgrew that space quickly. We're at nine bays today, and still growing.
We're both lifelong Lake County. This is our home community, and these are our neighbors on the simulators. You'll see us here. Come say hi.
