The Right Shaft Can Be 20 Yards By Itself.
Flex, weight, and profile are where most distance is hiding. We stock Fujikura, KBS, True Temper, Project X and more in every profile — so you feel and see the difference before you spend a dollar.
Most golfers fight a slice, hook, or lost distance because their clubs don't match their swing. Fix the match and the miss goes away.
"My ball always curves right"
Equipment fix: Shaft too stiff, lie angle too flat, or grip too large. A softer shaft and adjusted lie can square the face.
Result: Ball starts on line and holds it more often.
"I pull everything left"
Equipment fix: Lie angle too upright, shaft too soft, or grip too small allowing overactive hands.
Result: Tighter shot window, more fairways hit.
"I'm 20 yards shorter than I used to be"
Equipment fix: Wrong loft, heavy shaft, or improper swing weight. Lighter shafts and optimized launch angle add yards.
Result: Carry distance comes back — often more than before.
"I hit it thin and fat all day"
Equipment fix: Wrong club length causing poor posture, or incorrect swing weight throwing off timing.
Result: More centered strikes, better distance control.
Every fitting at Rain Check is done by Cory, the owner and head fitter. No handoffs, no commission salespeople, no upsell pressure. Just one golf nerd obsessed with your numbers.
Handicap, typical misses, what "better" actually means for your game. We need to know what we're solving before we pick up a club.
Your current clubs go on the launch monitor first. We capture exactly what we're beating — carry, dispersion, spin, strike quality.
Test premium combos until the numbers show clear gains. You feel it and the data confirms it — then we know we have your spec.
Exact specs recorded. Built in-house or ordered factory-direct — either way, every club comes through us for a final QC check before you take it home.
Head, shaft, lie, loft, length, grip, swing weight. Each one is a lever on distance, start line, and how tight your shot pattern is.
Blade vs. cavity, offset, face angle, MOI — each affects forgiveness and workability.
What it changes: how forgiving your miss is and how much you can work the ball.
Flex, weight, kick point, and torque determine feel, launch, and spin.
What it changes: carry distance, shot height, and how easy the club is to time.
Size and texture affect hand action — too small = hook, too large = slice.
What it changes: face angle at impact and shot shape consistency.
The "feel" of the club. Too light = rushed tempo, too heavy = fatigue and inconsistency.
What it changes: tempo consistency and strike quality over 18 holes.
Controls face aim at impact. Wrong lie = offline shots even with a "perfect" swing.
What it changes: whether your irons start left, right, or on target.
Optimal launch and posture. Too long = fat shots, too short = hunched back.
What it changes: contact quality, posture at address, and distance gapping.
Blades, players cavities, high-MOI drivers, L.A.B. putters. If it actually performs, you can test it here.
Manufacturers work in tolerance—close enough is good enough. We work in precision. Every club we build in-house is assembled exactly to your fitting specs, not "within range."
You have options: order factory-direct or have us custom build. Either way, every club ships to our shop first for a final quality check before you pick it up. No surprises.
When We Build In-House:
50% of your fitting fee is credited toward clubs ordered through us. Members get 100% credited. All fittings include full data printout and spec recommendations.
Handicaps down. Yardages up. Confidence way up.
"Best fitting I've ever had. Cory's attention to detail—lie, swing weight, length—made all the difference. Never felt rushed or pressured. The proof? My handicap is down 2.5 strokes this season."
"My first fitting ever—Cory was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me find the perfect shaft and club head combo. No pressure for expensive options, and the staff made me feel completely comfortable."
"The attention to detail was remarkable. Cory took time to really understand my swing and find clubs that work best for me. The final price was much more affordable than other fitting services."
"Got fitted for irons—Cory does an incredible job looking at as many things as he can to find the club that works best for your game. Awesome custom options as well. Highly recommend."
Do I have to buy clubs from you?
No. You'll leave with your exact specs and can order anywhere. But if you order through us, half of your fitting fee is credited toward the purchase. Members receive even better benefits — their full fitting fee is credited, making fittings essentially free with a club purchase.
Do I need to be a good golfer to get fitted?
No — and this might be the most common misconception about fittings. Getting the right length, shaft flex, and grip size from the start builds better habits and prevents the compensations that make improvement harder. Beginners often benefit the most.
Can I get fitted here and buy clubs somewhere else cheaper?
Yes. You'll leave with your exact specs and you're free to take them anywhere. That said, when you order through us, 50% of the fitting fee comes straight off the purchase price — and members get 100% credited. Most of the time, buying through us ends up being the better deal once you run the math.
What should I bring?
Bring your current clubs (we'll baseline them), golf glove, and shoes if you have them. Wear comfortable clothes you can swing in.
How long until I get my clubs?
Stock builds take 1–2 weeks. Custom builds with aftermarket shafts typically 2–4 weeks depending on component availability.
If you're an avid golfer in the Mentor area who wants more distance and tighter dispersion, book a fitting with Cory. One session, tour-level data to prove it — and if your fitted clubs don't outperform what you walked in with, you don't pay the fitting fee.
